Măcelaru leads the Festival Orchestra in works by composers Gabriella Smith, Julia Wolfe, Gabriela Ortiz, Olga Neuwirth and Festival co-founder Robert Hughes-in a posthumous tribute. Smith’s f(x)=sin²x-1/x is inspired by mathematical curves. Wolfe’s percussion concerto riSE and fLY is inspired by New York City street performers and features the return of Colin Currie as a soloist. Ortiz’s TZAM pays tribute to important figures she lost. Hughes’ Uutiqtut is inspired by the Arctic region. Neuwirth’s Dreydl explores memory and the passing of time.
