“There is a great guiding spirit at Cabrillo–and that is Marin Alsop. She chooses music of great variety that expresses very diverse points of view about the world.” –composer Osvaldo Golijov
For twenty-five inspired years as conductor, music director, and guiding light of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Marin Alsop has championed new music, nurtured artists and audiences, and raised the Festival to international stature. This summer audiences will participate in an historic happening when the Maestra celebrates her 25th anniversary and farewell season. Dance, film, and chorus will punctuate the excitement as Alsop and the Festival Orchestra are joined by eleven composers in residence and dozens of guest artists for multiple premieres, orchestra programs, chamber concerts, and daily activities designed to educate and engage. This year’s evening orchestral concerts are all named in honor of Alsop and the qualities that make her so remarkable: Power & Devotion, Inspiration & Impact, Courage & Connection, Memory & Meaning. Come to hear the greatest orchestra in the world for contemporary music! Come to join with community! Come to celebrate an era of inspired music making under Maestra Marin Alsop!
In addition to our orchestra and chamber Concerts, the Festival will continue the tradition of hosting Open Rehearsals, Talks, Meetups and free community events including the Church Street Fair. Robust content including videos, biographies, and program notes will be added to our website over the months leading up to the season, please join our mailing list to receive notification!
