Maestra Marin Alsop returns with a program as diverse as any before and invites you to join her as an adventurer standing at the edge of the frontier. She’ll be your trusted guide through new musical terrain. Thirteen composers in residence include newcomers and returning favorites, millennials to seasoned boomers, all coming from around the globe and representing a diversity of styles for which Marin and the Cabrillo Festival have become famous. Three world premieres, two U.S. premieres, four West Coast premieres and a roster of renowned soloists highlight the season. Banjo master Béla Fleck and the captivating ensemble Time for Three will make their Festival debuts, and violinist extraordinaire Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and virtuoso saxophonist Timothy McAllister return with hopes to transcend our memories and exceed our expectations. Creative and curious minds will gather for five programs of new works for orchestra, a chamber recital In the Blue Room, open rehearsals, talks, meetups, the Church Street Fair, and more.
