Composer Stacy Garrop has won numerous awards including a Fromm Music Foundation Grant, Raymond and Beverly Sackler Music Composition Prize, two Barlow Endowment commissions, as well as competitions sponsored by the American Composers Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Omaha Symphony, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, and the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. Her chamber and orchestral works are published by Theodore Presser Company, and she self-publishes her choral works under Inkjar Publishing Company. She is a Cedille Records recording artist and has works on seven of their CDs, with additional works on nine recordings by eight labels; these recordings feature performances by Chanticleer, Lincoln Trio, Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, Gaudete Brass Quintet, Biava Quartet, Cecilia Quartet, Chicago a cappella, and Volti. Cedille Records is currently in the process of recording her orchestral works with the Chicago College of Performing Arts Orchestra, to be commercially released in 2015/2016.
She has been commissioned by numerous ensembles and organizations including the Albany Symphony, Chanticleer, Chicago Classical Recording Foundation, Chicago Chamber Musicians, Rembrandt Chamber Players, and the Capitol Saxophone Quartet. Garrop is currently working on a commission from the San Francisco Choral Society and Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir to write an oratorio that will premiere in 2014.
Garrop has been in residence with several organizations including the Volti Choral Institute for High School Singers, Skaneateles Festival, Albany Symphony, and Music in the Loft. She has attended residencies at the Aspen Music Festival, MacDowell Colony, Banff Centre for the Arts, Yaddo Colony, and the Wellesley Composers Conference.
Garrop earned degrees in music composition at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (B.M.), University of Chicago (M.A.), and Indiana University-Bloomington (D.M.). She is an Associate Professor and Head of Composition at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. She is also on the composition faculty of the annual Fresh Inc Festival, sponsored by Fifth House Ensemble.
She makes her Cabrillo Festival debut with Thunderwalker at the Grand Finale performances at Mission San Juan Bautista, Sunday, August 10, 2014.
