CAMILLE SEAMAN, PHOTOGRAPHER

Camille Seaman was born in 1969 to a father of Shinnecock descent and an African American mother. She graduated in 1992 from the State University of New York at Purchase, where she studied photography with Jan Groover and John Cohen. Her photographs have been published in National Geographic magazine, National Geographic Italia, National Geographic Deutschland, TIME, the New York Times Sunday magazine, NewsweekOutsideZeit Wissen, among many others. She leads photographic workshops all over the globe. Her photographs have received many awards including a National Geographic Award, 2006; and the Critical Mass Top Monograph Award, 2007. She is a TED Senior Fellow, Stanford Knight Fellow, as well as a Cinereach Filmmaker-in-Residence Fellow. Camille Seaman strongly believes in capturing photographs that articulate that humans are not separate from nature.

NIKKI SILVA, INTERVIEWER/PRODUCER

Nikki Silva is Co-executive Producer of the public radio team, The Kitchen Sisters, creators of hundreds of stories for NPR and public broadcast. Working with her long-time friend and producing partner, Davia Nelson, their work includes the duPont-Columbia and James Beard Award winning series Hidden Kitchens, the Peabody Award winning Lost & Found Sound series, their Webby Award winning podcast The Kitchen Sisters Present, and more. Their current NPR and podcast series is The Keepers, stories of activist archivists, rogue librarians, curators, historians, collectors— guardians of history, large and small, protectors of the free flow of information and ideas. In 2012, The Kitchens Sisters collaborated with The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, conductor Marin Alsop and four women composers to produce Hidden World of Girls: Stories for Orchestra a symphonic, multimedia work based on their NPR series. Silva is also a museum curator and exhibit consultant. She lives on a commune with her family in La Selva Beach.
